Tournament Overview

USA Basketball hosts the 2019 U.S. Open Basketball Championships in Westfield, Indiana for 10th grade, 9th grade, 13U and 12U divisions of play for both boys and girls. The boys and girls championship tournaments will occur on July 17-21. In order to qualify for the culminating event, 10th and 9th grade teams must participate in approved USA Basketball Alliance Tournaments throughout the country. The championships are open to teams of varying competition levels and follow USA Basketball Youth Guidelines for appropriate play.

Facility Overview

IBA is a 30,000 square foot state-of-the-art indoor sports facility – home of Illinois Basketball Academy.

 

We boast 4 wood court surfaces for tournament play.

Spectator Fee

Adults – $10 per day

Children (7-12 years old) – $7 per day

Seniors (65 or older) – $7 per day

Children (6 or younger) – FREE

Hotel Accommodations

IBA is about 3 miles North of Fox Valley Mall.

Over 100 restaurants are within an 5-8 mile driving distance of the facility.

Downtown Chicago with all its sights is a 35-50 minute drive and 30-50 minute train ride.

Age and Grade Groupings

11th Grade – Athletes must be enrolled in the 11th grade or below (as of October 1, 2018) AND cannot turn 19 prior to September 1, 2019

10th Grade – Athletes must be enrolled in the 10th grade or below (as of October 1, 2018) AND cannot turn 18 prior to September 1, 2019

9th Grade – Athletes must be enrolled in the 9th grade or below (as of October 1, 2018) AND cannot turn 17 prior to September 1, 2019

8th Grade OR 14U

Eligibility Verification

It is the responsibility of the head coach to provide age and grade (if applicable) verification for players at any time throughout the event. Permitted forms of player age verification include birth certificates, passports and government-issued IDs (originals, hard copies or digital copies). Permitted forms of player grade verification include school-issued report cards or school administrator confirmation of grade issued on school letterhead (originals, hard copies or digital copies).

Coach License Requirement

All coaches and bench personnel participating must have a valid USA Basketball Coach License on file with USA Basketball prior to the start of the event. The coach license process requires successfully passing a background check which generally takes 7-10 business days to process. To obtain a coach license, visit the site.

It is the responsibility of the head coach to provide verification of coach licensure at any time throughout the event. Once licensed, set your online coach account profile to “public” view for real-time verification of licensure onsite. Only actively licensed coaches are permitted on the bench to coach.

This tournament will be played by National Federation of State High School Associations rules.

Game Structure

  • Four (4) quarters of eight (8) minutes each.
  • Two (2) 30 second time-outs & three (3) 60 second time-outs – used anytime.
  • One (1) minute between quarters and Five (5) minute half-time.
  • Each team will have at least Ten (10) minutes to warm up for each game.
